Yosi-free Diaries: Day 1

I've decided to smoke my last cigarette yesterday afternoon. Today is the first day of my attempt to ditch the literally stinky habit of smoking. I shall document my progress - or my failure - just to see if I can actually do this…or maybe just how long I will last 'til I smoke my next cigarette.

I think it's important to note that I haven't stopped smoking since 2006 (except for 6 months back in 2010, when I got pregnant - didn't know I was 'til the 3rd month - and 3 months after, when I breastfed little Brianna).

I'm thinking of documenting my progress for 21 days 'cause that's how long it takes to form a habit but we'll see.

Right now, I really really really want a stick. Watching my brother take a drag is not helping. At all. Plus, I have this heavy feeling on my chest which seems to be telling me that I actually NEED to smoke but I'm trying to ignore that.

Also, my mouth is suffering from oral fixation not even 24 hours since my last cigarette. Maybe a gum will help me with this. Or a bag of nuts/chips just like Han in The Fast and the Furious franchise. (I LOVE HAN OKAY!!! Now, I wanna watch Tokyo Drift again.)

This oral fixation thing is effing up my already effed up lips. Chapstick to the rescue!

  1. I heard it takes thirteen weeks for people to form a habit, but I don't know.

I haven't asked my dad about it, but I know he quit smoking a few years back. Cold turkey, if I remember correctly. He hasn't gone back since. (My mother smokes, but only when she needs to go to the bathroom. Nothing recreational.) And I'm sure you know others who have quit the habit.

I'm glad you're doing this diary, Ale. And I'm glad you're trying to kick the habit too. For Brianna, for you. I wish you all the best.

(Ang pormal ng comment na yun ah. Haha)
